WHAT IS RESTORATIVE JUSTICE?

White Sand and Stone

"RESTORATIVE JUSTICE IS NOT ABOUT RESTORING BACK TO WHAT WAS, IT IS ABOUT RESTORING TO WHAT SHOULD BE"

-Fania Davis

What Restorative Justice is Not...

Restorative Justice is NOT  DEI work. RJ transcends beyond diversity and inclusion and instead finds itself relying on relationships and interconnection to create foundations for Justice and Equity to prevail in our communities.

What Restorative Justice is...

A way of viewing harm...

Restorative Justice is a philosophy and a worldview that is reminding us of who we are and how we once viewed harm. RJ sees wrongdoing as a breakdown of relationships and its practices helps us dig into the roots of harm. Consequently, it allows us to honor our inherent interconnectedness and dignify the interrelatedness of all life by honoring the humanity in all people, especially those impacted by original harms.

A way of being...

Restorative justice is more than just a way to resolve conflict. It is a holistic understanding of a way to live everyday in alignment with our core values and in good relationship with others.

It begs us to go in and do the necessary learning and unlearning necessary for self healing and community healing. So that we may all be liberated from the overt and insidious impacts of racism and other forms of oppression.

Because it is an everyday practice of relationships and interconnection, this work and philosophy can be embedded into the fabric of any community where humans exist and connect; from home to the workplace, there are ways to infuse the restorative mindset into any space.
